Jaanus Pikani (Estonia) elected new Chairman of ScanBalt

The former chief of staff of the Estonian president and former hospital director Jaanus Pikani was elected Chairman of ScanBalt at the General Assembly for ScanBalt® fmba 8th of September 2015.

Jaanus Pikani is a serial entrepreneur who has founded and sits on the board of several companies. Jaanus Pikani is also among the original founders of ScanBalt where he represents Tartu Biotechnology Park and he has been acting as an advisor to health care systems in several countries. In addition he has strong collaboration and business interest with Vietnam, India, Portugal, USA, Sweden and several other countries.

“With the election of Jaanus Pikani as Chairman of ScanBalt we underline the importance of collaboration between the health care systems and the private sectors for solving societal challenges and promote economic regional development in our region” says former Chairman Wolfgang Blank, CEO of Biotechnikum Greifswald and President of the regional Chamber of Commerce in East Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Wolfgang Blank has served as a Chairman of ScanBalt® fmba since 2009 in a period where ScanBalt has experienced significant progress and has ensured a return of investment to the members of more than 15:1. In 2011 he received – representing BioCon Valley – the Baltic Sea Region Innovation Award for outstanding work with linking the strongest innovation milieus in the Baltic Sea Region within the field of life science and health.

Wolfgang Blank will continue as vice chairman for the association.

Other vice chairmen elected at the General Assembly are Krzysztof Bielawski,  Head of the Tech Transfer office at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology University of Gdansk and Medical University of Gdansk;  Daan Bultje, Director, Healthy Ageing Network of Northern Netherlands; Lars Lindsköld, Project  Leader, eHealth Department, Region Västra Götaland and CEO Image Repository and Tero Piispanen, Director Internationalisation Services and BioTurku, Turku Science Park Ltd.
