Ernst & Young has tracked the progress of biotechnology for two decades.

The biotechnology sector turns 30 this year, and it is booming across the globe, from the maturing US sector to rapidly emerging Asia-Pacific. Revenues of the world’s publicly traded biotech companies grew 18 percent in 2005 — reaching an all-time high of US$63.1 billion — and raised US$19.7 billion in capital, the sector’s second highest total since the bubble of 2000.
