Ethical, Legal and Societal Aspects of Genomics Research – Netherlands Genomics Initiative

The Netherlands Genomics Initiative has produced a new report on Genomics research in the EU, Canada, and the USA.

NGI aims for a leading role in the European genomics community. To effectively exploit the available financial and human resources, NGI focuses on a limited number of large European research initiatives that are complementary to the themes chosen by NGI and can provide added value to the overall genomics research in The Netherlands.

As part of this goal, NGI contributes directly to European research through ERA-NET. This is scheme is primarily concerned with the coordination and cooperation of national and regional programmes – it seeks to overcome the fragmentation of EU research. As part of this contribution the NGI has produced a new report, as a specific support action to ERA-NET, to enable a greater understanding of the ethical, legal and societal aspects of genomics.

The report contains information on funding opportunities for genomics in the studied countries, the compartive levels of investment, key figures in national research, and information on future initiatives.
