EU Call – Affiliation of New European Participants to The Biology and Pathology of the Malaria Parasite Network. Call for letters of interest – Affiliation of New European Participants to BioMalPar Network.

The Biology and Pathology of the Malaria Parasite consortium invites letters of interest from European scientific teams interested in conducting collaborative research with the BioMalPar consortium.

BioMalPar is a joint research FP6 Network of Excellence, funded by the European Commission and currently involving 44 teams from 21 institutions in Europe and Africa (coordinated at the Pasteur Institute, Paris).

It carries out research on malaria parasites and their interactions with both mammalian hosts and mosquito vectors. This project started on 1st April, 2004 and is currently funded until 31st March, 2009.

The research component of European applicants must be focused on studies in the biology and pathology of the malaria parasite with a high expertise in the following research areas:
• Development and gene regulation
• Functional cell biology and metabolism
• Molecular and cellular biology of the pathogenesis of malaria
• Immune response and defence mechanisms in the host and the vector.
