Focus call: Support to setting up new laboratories
The FOCUS Programme (- setting up new laboratories)
Support and help in obtaining independence, building a new research group and organising laboratory in the selected disciplines. Disciplines are to be selected by Foundation every year. In 2006 this is mathematical modelling of biological processes.
Conditions of eligibility:
– all nationalities
– within six years of experience after obtaining a PhD
– age limit 37 (39, in case of maternity leave)
– affiliation with a Polish scientific entity
– leadership of a group for no longer then two years
Evaluation criteria:
compulsory
– excellent scientific achievements
– suitable work conditions (infrastructure, team, additional funding)
– comprehensive proposal of the independent research group creation or research group development
preferable
– affiliation with a different organisation from the one where the applicants obtained their PhD
– post-doc fellowship in a different country
Number of the awarded grants (yearly): Up to 5
Duration:
Three years with a possible extension to 5 years (on the condition of co-funding from external organisation)
Amount: 80000 PLN a year
Eligible costs categories:
– Stipend for the applicant, stipends for the group members (young PhDs or PhD students)
– Purchasing of books, journals, equipment or materials etc.
– International visits to other organisations abroad
– Participation in conferences, additional subcontracts
– Technical assistance and administration (e.g. fundraising)
Call closing date 15 October 2006
During the period of receiving the grant there will be an additional call for the successful candidates, giving the possibility to apply for start-up money. Total fund earmarked for this call amounts to 2 M PLN.
