Health goes digital – National Conference on Health Economy looks into hot topic

Branchenkonferenz 2017 final

The digitization of everyday life has eventually reached health economy. Making this a central issue of last year’s National Conference on Health Economy, it will again dominate the renowned forum of the German health sector held in Rostock on 23-24 May 2017.

“We had to learn that the digitization of the German health sector is still in its infancy – despite the clearly stated wish of patients and research for further advancement and despite the obvious necessity for it”, says congress president Prof. Marek Zygmunt. “We want to understand the reasons behind this and we want to make this process more dynamic.”

This year’s conference edition will address topics like qualification and digital education associated to “work 4.0”, ethical, legal, and economic aspects as well as the practical implementation of digital heath care solutions.

Another reason for sticking with digitization as a central conference topic is the partner country of the conference: Estonia. The country is known to be leading in the implementation of digital health solutions, thus serving as best practice model to study and learn from.

As Jaanus Pikani of Tartu Biotechnology Park, who will lead the Estonian delegation, points out, “Health economy start-ups are using Estonia as testbed in order to enter foreign markets as soon as their products have proven successful with the users.” Solutions like these will be presented at the conference in Rostock.
