Pharmaceuticals and Biotech among top five IPO sectors in Europe, 2005. (IPO=Initial Public offering, when a company is recorded at a stock exchange)

Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology was among the top five sectors which experienced the most IPO activity in Europe in 2005. IPO activity was strong in Europe in 2005

The top 5 sectors were:
1:  the mining sector with 54 IPOs
2: the oil & gas 50 IPO s
3: speciality & other finance sectors- 50 IPOs
4: software &computer services with 46 IPOs
5: pharmaceuticals & biotechnology with 38 IPOs.

IPO activity was strong in Europe in 2005, and the trend continues in for first quarter ( 1.Q.) 2006. There were 126 IPOs in 1. Q. 2006 compared with the 101 recorded in the same period in 2005. In volume terms, in 1.Q.  2006 there was a 29% growth in the number of IPOs compared to the same period last year and more than 100% growth when compared to quarter one of 2004.

For 1.Q. 2006,  IPOs within the Pharmaceutical and Biotech sector the volume drops to a number 7 rank.
