Roundtable discussion on the future of Parkinson’s disease research in Framework Programme Seven

June 26th 2006
Brussels.

This workshop will feature a discussion of the future direction of Parkinson’s Disease research in the light of joint European efforts and the forthcoming FP7 programme.

To discuss this, a core group of distinguished scientists comprising Alexis Brice (France), Thomas Gasser (Germany), Peter Heutink (Netherlands), Nicolas Wood (U.K.) and Olaf Riess (Germany) has grouped in order to try to pave way for a European project on the molecular basis and translational medicine of Parkinson’s disease in FP7.

A number of key questions will be addressed including:
What are the major areas on which a European consortium would focus in order to take world-wide leadership in this important area of research?
What can a European Consortium on Parkinson’s disease research achieve in FP7?
How would these achievements contribute to an improvement of the situation of PD patients?
