ScanBalt BioRegion countries score positively in 2005 Environmental Sustainability Index
The 2005 Environmental Sustainability Index, which benchmarks countries on their ability to protect the environment over the coming decades, gives many of the ScanBalt countries a high score. In particular, Finland tops the table of 146 countries with the highest overall score. Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Lithuania and Estonia all appear in the top 30 places.
The ESI integrates 76 different data sets, including information on pollution levels, natural resource use, environmental management and a society’s capacity to improve its environmental performance.
The ESI is a powerful decision making tool, providing empirical data to facilitate policy making.
