ScanBalt launches the new and improved ScanBalt web site www.scanbalt.org
The new web site gives extensive information on projects and activities in ScanBalt BioRegion and information on the region itself.The design of the web is based on a contest won by Alar Virumae, Triip, Estonia.
“The web is based on the involvement of regional web editors all over ScanBalt BioRegion”, says Jørgen Dirach, Novo Nordisk, and chairman of the web steering group “With the new web site we have an effective tool for creating a one-stop-entryto ScanBalt BioRegion and for communication in the region between the actors.The aim is to provide a clear identity to the region, which will help to attract human and financial resources”. First meeting of ScanBalt Marine Biotechnology network

A very successful 2 days workshop was held in Copenhagen on 15-16 January 2004. The workshop was supported by a Norfa grant.
The participants were renowned Marine Scientist representing Marine Biotech interest in the majority of the ScanBalt Region.
A Marine Biotech Network application will be submitted in May 2004. A core application group is established. A NorFa Marine Biotech Network will establish a Nordic – Baltic platform for communication and cooperation. The aim is to strengthen the quality of research, improve shared use of marine research infrastructures, set up joint training courses, and information dissemination. ScanBalt Environment Network

A new project in ScanBalt is currently being initiated – The ScanBalt Environment Network. The project will focus on creating critical mass and knowledge transfer in biotech and life sciences inside Environmental Sciences involving both public and private partners. Says Noel Brings Jacobsen, Managing Director of Öresund Environment Academy and responsible for the project “We believe there is a huge potential to be utilized if we strengthen bonds between research institutions and private companies operating in the environmental field in ScanBalt BioRegion having in mind the many different competencies and needs. We are optimistic, that we will be able to concretize the project more in details during 2004”
