A future in which algae are used in integrated systems is a reality. This will be done effectively and economically, but only if a systemic approach is taken. The report seeks to clarify what can be achieved by the use of algae and identify the key enabling conditions.

The study helps frame the discussion so as to reduce risks and exploit opportunities, bridging the gap between science and policy. In doing so, it can be seen as a precursor of an action plan and funding strategy for achieving the milestones presented throughout the study.
