Tekes Report (Finland): Future Research Themes in FP7

Tekes – the National Technology Agency of Finland is the main public funding organisation for
research and development in Finland. Tekes funds industrial projects as well as projects in
research organisations, promoting, in particular, innovative, risk-intensive projects. Tekes works in close cooperation with its clients in companies, universities and research institutes.

Tekes would like to contribute to the planning of future research themes in the Seventh
Framework Programme, and suggest some new perspectives for European R&D
collaboration. This spring, Tekes will publish a new extensive technology strategy, which
examines the global challenges for Finnish economic life. Many of these challenges are
common for all European countries and equally important for European competitiveness in the
future. The new openings introduced in this document are based on the work done in the
strategy planning process, which has involved all the key industrial and academic players in
the Finnish innovation system.
