Continuity for Baltic Sea co-operation
Continuity for Baltic Sea co-operationThere will be strong focus on the Baltic Sea in the next few years, perhaps greater than ever before, since Sweden has chosen to make co-operation around the common sea an important focus area during its Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
“The Baltic Sea Region has a high priority for the Nordic countries and the Council of Ministers. This will also be the case during Sweden’s Presidency of the EU,” said Sweden’s Minister for Nordic Co-operation, Cristina Husmark Pehrsson.
Sweden takes over the Presidency of the EU in the second half of 2009. Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has also stressed the importance of the Baltic Sea. Moreover, as Denmark will take over the Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States this summer, everything is being set up for an intensive Nordic concentration of strengths for the Baltic Sea in the future.
