Life science delegation from Southern Denmark visits Schleswig-Holstein

On 27 and 28 January a sizeable Danish delegation travelled to Schleswig-Holstein, with representatives from Region of Southern Denmark, the Interreg 5A Secretariat, South Jutland Hospital and the Health Innovation Centre of Southern Denmark, to explore the possibility of future cooperation.

The programme organised through Life Science Nord included a tour of the Urology and Paediatric Urology units at the Schleswig-Holstein University Clinic. There, Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Jüneman presented the da Vinci Surgical System, pointed to the potential in robot-assisted surgery and addressed existing German/Danish cooperations.

During the following visit to the implant manufacturer Stryker, in Schönkirchen, participants gained an impression of the production processes and were informed about future plans involving Danish participation in the area of bone healing.

Discussions with Life Science Nord Management explored the first concrete possibilities for a future cooperation between the two regions. “We see Southern Denmark as a strong location. Further cooperation in this area with a region like Southern Denmark that is strong in innovation will have great advantages for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein,” said Dr. Thomas Frahm following these discussions.

Region of Southern Denmark is one of five Danish regions with a total of 1.2 million inhabitants. This accounts for a fifth of the Danish population. Among its other tasks, Region of Southern Denmark is responsible for the operation of hospitals as well as economic advancement. For this reason, innovative medicine plays a vital role in the region alongside medical technology, biotech and pharma.
